Join us for this webinar as our speaker, Concepcion Sanchez-Cid from the Environmental Microbial Genomics Group, describes using a combination of metagenomic approaches and qPCR/RT-qPCR to assess the effects of antibiotics on water bacterial communities, their associated resistome and the structure of class 1 integrons, which could be vectors towards human pathogens.

• To understand the impact of anthropogenic pollution on environmental bacteria so that they can better fight the emergence of antibiotic resistance in clinics
• That sub-inhibitory concentrations of antibiotics may select for antibiotic resistance in the environment despite being too low to inhibit bacterial growth (or in some cases to measure)
• Metagenomic approach is a powerful tool for understanding the mechanisms underlying the development of antibiotic resistance in anthropogenically-stressed environments
