Nutrient Agar – Media Mikrobiologi

Category:

Description

STBIO Media, manufactured by STBIO (Shang Ding) Inc., is a brand of dehydrated culture media and ingredients, including peptones, that can be used to prepare nutrient agar. Nutrient agar is a general-purpose, non-selective medium used in microbiology for the routine cultivation of non-fastidious microorganisms.

While STBIO offers its own peptones and other ingredients, a standard nutrient agar formulation typically consists of the following components:
  • Peptone: An enzymatic digest of proteins that serves as the primary source of organic nitrogen, amino acids, and peptides for microbial growth.
  • Beef or Yeast extract: Provides water-soluble vitamins, carbohydrates, and additional nitrogen compounds.
  • Agar: A solidifying agent derived from seaweed. It has no nutritional value.
  • Sodium chloride (NaCl): Maintains the osmotic balance of the medium.
  • Distilled water: Serves as the transport medium for all the dissolved substances.
Uses of nutrient agar made with STBIO ingredients
Since STBIO provides ingredients and media used in industrial and laboratory settings, the nutrient agar prepared with their products would be used for standard applications, including:
  • General cultivation: Growing a wide range of less fastidious microorganisms.
  • Enumeration: Counting the number of microorganisms in samples from sources like water, food, and dairy products.
  • Quality control: Used in the food and pharmaceutical industries to test for microbial contamination.
  • Educational settings: Ideal for teaching basic microbiology principles and growing bacteria for demonstration.
  • Purity checks: Before performing other biochemical or serological tests, nutrient agar is used to ensure a culture is pure.
